WORK
A 2-Month Chipotle Sentence
Recently, a video went viral showing a woman throwing a hot burrito bowl in the face of a 17-year-old worker…
Not cool. (Unless, of course, they didn’t give you much chicken). Kidding. Never cool.
Now, the 39-year-old mother of 4 has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to a month in jail and 2 months working a fast food job.
In the sentencing hearing, the judge asked her, “Do you want to walk in her shoes for two months and learn how people should treat people, or do you want to do your jail time?”
Boom roasted.
She chose the latter and will now be on the job hunt. The job will have to be approved by the court and the woman will have to work at least 20 hours a week (after she gets out of jail).
The judge said this was the first time he’s handed down this kind of sentence. (We love the creativity).
According to CNN, the woman was still complaining about the food in the sentencing hearing. We’ll see if she pulls a similar stunt on the guards serving the jail food.
Sounds like a fun lady to be around.
Control your hanger, ladies & gents! And be nice to service workers…
PAY
Unions FTW
Remember that story from Tuesday about not getting a raise next year? Well this may have something to do with it!
According to CNN, almost a million union workers saw their pay jump by 10% or more this year. Around 300k of those raises came within the last six weeks, some as a result of high stakes negotiations between the UAW and major auto companies.
“Union members earned average weekly pay of $1,216 last year, or 18% more than the average pay of $1,029 for nonunion workers, according to Labor Department data.”
Some raises were given without a strike, including culinary workers on the Vegas strip, UPS workers, and non-teaching workings in LA schools.
The association of professional flight attendants, which represents more than 23,000 workers, just resumed negotiations with major airliners after rejecting 11% raises. If the airliners reach an agreement, it would cap off what has already been a huge year for union workers.
How about nonunion workers?
Data shows that hourly wages are up 4.3% compared to a year ago. Some nonunion employers such as Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai are raising their wages in tandem with those in the UAW.
Lesson?
Always go on strike.

RTO
Return to Office Will Impact 400k Workers
Uncle Sam is the latest organization to issue an RTO mandate. They join companies like Google, Amazon, JPMorgan, and more which have mandates that workers attend a physical office.
For at least 122k workers, the mandate will be brand new. The remaining workers already have some sort of hybrid work schedule in place.
The new mandate comes as an attempt by the federal government to fix their empty office problems. (More commercial real estate issues, probably).
According to a survey from this summer, 89% of federal employees have some sort of remote work agreement.
Naturally, the government’s response is to not give the employees what they want, make them return to office so that taxpayers can spend more money to pay for offices and utilities, and enforce it right after the start of the new year.
