WORKWEEK

Is the 6-Day Workweek Coming?!

Samsung recently implemented a 6-day workweek to instill a sense of urgency among executives. It looks like other companies have similar plans within the next 18 months.

ResumeBuilder surveyed over 750 business leaders to find out how they feel about a 6-day workweek and if they have any plans to implement it at their companies in the near future.

Here are the key findings:

  • 9% of business leaders say their company plans to institute a 6-day workweek in 2025

  • 1 in 6 think full-time employees should work more than 40 hours per week

  • Majority believe a 6-day workweek would increase revenue and productivity

While 9% say they plan to implement a 6-day workweek, 11% actually said they plan on shifting to a 4-day workweek. 79% said they plan to keep the traditional 5-day schedule.

What about the other 1%?!

Even though only a small portion of leaders plan to implement the longer workweek, 76% believe that it would increase productivity and 64% think it would improve company financials.

Wooo! More work for everyone!

Companies do appear to have some concerns about employee turnover if they do choose to implement…

Work-life balance? Nah, who needs it.

Would you work a 6-day workweek

JOBS REPORT

May Jobs Report

Layoffs everywhere, high interest rates, rising unemployment, hiring freezes, job seekers applying to hundreds of jobs and not getting a single response…

It may seem like doom and gloom in the labor market.

But the actual numbers show it’s not all that bad.

Employers added 272,000 jobs in May, bringing the three-month average to a level similar to last year.

The rise in unemployment can be almost entirely chalked up to workers 24 and under, while prime-age (25-54) employment increased in May.

Payroll gains were large and widespread across industries last month. Wage growth also continued to accelerate compared to the previous month.

“The labor market has defied expectations for so long that it might seem invincible. But nothing ever is. The current trajectory is positive, but with declining demand for workers, it can’t hold up forever. We should celebrate the current situation but be alert to the fact that moderation can turn into something more painful.”
