Relatable…

Most professionals have a side hustle to make some extra cash.

At least I did...

As a former sales leader, I always had one consulting gig on the side that gave me the extra cushion to save, invest, or take an extra trip.

One day, I realized that if I were to have multiple consulting gigs, I would make a lot more money than working full-time, but most importantly, I would have A LOT more time.

I decided to give this a shot during a global pandemic. In year 1, I matched my corporate income by working half the time. In year 2, I 3x my corporate income working 40 hours a week. From there, it kept going up.

When I started telling people about this on Linkedin, many people asked me how I did it.

From the post below, I got 103 calls and messages from people trying to get the playbook.

This gave birth to The Fractional Operating System. A course that shares my entire experience in doing side hustle, consulting, and fractional work with 50 companies over the last three years.

It's an end-to-end playbook with my operating model, pricing, contracts, etc.

Hundreds of Thousands Will Be Furloughed Without Pay…

The US government is set to shut down on October 1st (if Congress fails to provide funding for the fiscal year).

What does this mean for jobs?

Well, “essential” workers will be mandated to work without pay. And non-essential workers (we have non-essential workers in the government?) will be furloughed without pay.

2 million soldiers will remain at their posts, but about half of the 800k civilian contractors employed by the Pentagon will be cut. Most law enforcement officers will remain on the job without pay and criminal prosecution will continue.

Lawmakers will continue to collect their checks, but other federal workers won’t. Their staffers will have to continue to work, but won’t receive pay. Hmm seems like a scam…

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will furlough ~90% of its 4.6k employees and suspend most activities.

The IRS will operate as normal, and all 83,000 employees will continue to be paid because the agency's funding will not expire (so don’t even think about making any $600 Venmo transactions).

Most employees of the Education Department will be furloughed. 10k children from low-income families will lose access to the Head Start preschool program.

The government better get it together!

Job Seekers Are Lyin’?

As you probably know, there are TONS of AI experts parading around LinkedIn, X, and every other corner of the internet. You can’t escape them.

But it turns out, there really aren’t that many AI experts. And job seekers are lying about their AI expertise to land jobs.

According to a Resume Builder survey, 45% of job-seekers admitted to lying about AI skills on their resume.

Now, it isn’t clear if these were strictly AI-related roles, or if job seekers were claiming AI proficiency in order to bolster their resumes.

It does, however, highlight a growing trend in which job seekers are encouraged to lie on their resumes. Not cool. But in fairness, companies do lie quite a bit on their job descriptions too…

“Our culture is the best. We’re like a family here.”

Maybe the solution is an AI lie detector for both resumes and job descriptions?

The Election Integrity Team Has Been X’d

Let’s talk some politics, eh? Just kidding. Well, X reportedly just cut half of its Election Integrity team. This comes less than a month after there were reports that the team would be growing in preparation for the 2024 election.

X also removed a feature designed to make it easier to report “election misinformation”.

Given the advancements in AI, the spread of information around the election will certainly be interesting.

Remember that Flexport CEO drama from a few weeks back? The one where the old CEO regained power and rescinded 75 offers?

Well, the shorter-term CEO (Dave Clark) just changed his LinkedIn…and we’re here for it.

Next-level pettiness. We love it.

Catch up on that story here.
