MEME OF THE DAY

AI

Meet The New AI Recruiter

Chipotle is rolling out an artificial intelligence assistant that the chain hopes will cut the time it takes to hire workers by as much as 75%.

Hopefully, this means we can get an increase in steak portions with all the money they’ll save on recruiting!

Last week, the company announced that the virtual recruiter (known as “Ava Cado”) will be available at more than 3,500 restaurants in North America and Europe by the end of the month, the company announced Tuesday.

The fall is Chipotle’s second busiest recruiting period of the year, following the March-to-May sales sprint it calls “burrito season.”

The company said Ava will collect applicants’ information, answer their questions about the company, book meetings, and send offers to candidates selected by humans.

The goal is to take those administrative tasks off managers’ to-do lists so they can focus on running the restaurants.

“The system operates as if we’ve hired additional administrative support for all our restaurants.”

-Ilene Eskenazi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Chipotle

The AI assistant is powered by tech firm Parado and can speak 4 languages (English, Spanish, French and German).

This is Chipotle’s latest move into automation, following tests of robots that expedite avocado mashing and burrito bowl assembly.

WORKFORCE

The Side Hustle Generation

With widespread layoffs and economic uncertainty, workers are picking up side hustles in record numbers. The youngins (Gen Z workers) have been especially eager to build skills for future careers with a side hustle.

According to last week’s report from Quicken, 18% of workers have a side hustle that they’re using for extra money and building skills for the future. That number jumps to 44% among Gen Z workers.

“In today’s evolving economy, more Americans are embracing side hustles, not just as a source of supplemental income but as a way to build new skills. Whether they’re looking to advance in their careers or eventually work for themselves, these entrepreneurial efforts are creating a path toward greater financial independence and personal fulfillment.”

-Eric Dunn, CEO of Quicken

In a survey of 1,008 U.S. adults who have more than one source of income from different jobs, 72% said they enjoy working for themselves more than being linked to a corporation. And 73% of those who prefer self-employment said they enjoy managing multiple jobs more than pouring their effort into one position.

Although 40% said they dream of quitting their full-time job to focus on their side hustle, many are keeping it secret for now. Only half of those with multiple sources of income said they’ve told their full-time employer about their side hustle.

Side hustlers identified benefits to their nontraditional path, such as feeling more financially secure (72%), experiencing reduced financial stress (67%) and no longer having to live paycheck to paycheck (68%).
