Job seekersā€™ biggest ā€œicksā€

Most people are well aware of the doā€™s and donā€™ts when it comes to job hunting: do show up to an interview on time, donā€™t have spelling errors in your resume, dress wisely, and so on. But shifting the focus, what are hiring managers doing to drive away talent? StandOutCV surveyed 1,092 people about the biggest red flags they consider when job hunting.

  1. Job offers the minimum amount of annual leave allowance

  2. Required or heavily encouraged applicants to like other employeesā€™ social media content

  3. No salary information available

  4. About usā€™ page or companyā€™s board lacks diversity

  5. If a job advert or interviewer said ā€œweā€™re like a familyā€ (our personal least favorite)

  6. Cash-in-hand pay

  7. Pay isnā€™t monthly

  8. Received an email from them out of hours

Bad Bosses

Fired for being pregnant?!

A former employee is suing Publix for for allegedly violating the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, along with several other laws. Per the lawsuit, the employee worked as an inventory control analyst at a store in Polk County, Florida.

During her pregnancy, she experienced severe morning sickness and pregnancy-related hypertension, the lawsuit alleged. Early on, she was called back to the store from teleworking and eventually required to report to work at 5 a.m., when her morning sickness was at its worst.

After taking it up with higher management, she was allowed to go back to remote work. But even after she was allowed to work remotely prior to her termination, the supervisorā€™s boss allegedly continued to make inappropriate comments, repeatedly asked her to work in-person and became hostile when she tried to rebuff or ignore that pressure, according to the complaint.

Shortly before her due date, she was fired for completing work without being logged on. Publix didnā€™t discipline other workers for the same thing.

No matter how bad your boss is, theyā€™re probably not this bad!
