The Company That Wants to Interview Your Spouse?!

Dave Ramsey isnā€™t one to shy away from making controversial statements.

And heā€™s back at it again with another interesting oneā€¦but this new revelation about his company may be one of the crazier things in job market news this year. And thatā€™s saying something!

Ramsey Solutions, the financial guidance platform led by the author and radio host, just covered some of the ā€œbasics of recruitmentā€ in a hiring advice section.

Most of it was pretty basic stuff like conducting aptitude and personality tests, getting references, and doing an initial screening call.

However, the platformā€™s ā€œbest hiring adviceā€ is where it goes off the rails.

Ramsey suggests taking the candidate AND their spouse out to dinner to find out ā€œif your candidate is married to a crazy.ā€

Uhhh what?

Ramsey referred to this final step in the hiring process as ā€œa game changer.ā€ Canā€™t disagree there!

Studies have shown that married men have an advantage in the job hunt, being more likely to receive interviews and also getting paid up to 3.5% more compared to single men.

Ramseyā€™s unorthodox recruiting advice didnā€™t end there, though. He also suggests looking at all their personal expenses and budgets.

His reasoning for this piece of advice makes a lot of sense: ā€œCan the candidate afford to live on the salary you provide? If not, sooner or later, theyā€™ll blame you for ā€˜not paying enoughā€™ even though they accepted your offer and should know what they can and canā€™t live on.ā€

Certainly an interesting approachā€¦

JOBS REPORT

Positive Signs for the Labor Market

Itā€™s been all doom and gloom lately.

Weā€™re here with good news!

A trio of stories from the weekend indicate the worst days of the labor market are behind us!

  1. Initial jobless claims totaled a seasonally adjusted 233,000 for the week, a decline of 17,000 and lower than the Dow Jones estimate of 240,000. Stock market futures turned sharply positive after the release. (CNBC)

  2. Despite layoffs and high levels of employee burnout, employee confidence is on the rise. The share of workers reporting a positive six-month business outlook rose again to 48.1%, up from Februaryā€™s all-time low of 45.1%. (Glassdoor)

  3. Bloomberg economists have optimism for the labor market, according to a new survey. 60% of economists surveyed by Bloomberg described the labor market as ā€œsolid.ā€ 24% said it has weakened, but will likely stabilize. Only 16% predicted significant job losses are coming (BOOOO!!!). (Bloomberg)
