WORKPLACE

Do You Have Annoying Coworkers?

the top 5 types of annoying coworkers

According to an article from Forbes, 85% of people work with annoying colleagues.

Everyone knows that coworkers can be annoying.

But new reports show that workplace toxicity is significantly screwing up employee morale, and affecting companiesā€™ bottom lines.

Turns out microwaving fish in the break room can actually cost your company money down the line!

Well, not exactly.

But, a new study from Kickresume detailed the different types of annoying coworkers and how employees deal with them.

The research found that there are five common types of annoying coworkers:

  • Credit stealer (33%)

  • Micromanager (32%)

  • Chronic complainer (30%)

  • Personal space invader (30%)

  • Lunch thief (27%)

Stealing peopleā€™s lunches?! Thatā€™s crazy.

The real pandemic of last century is that over a quarter of people work with lunch thieves and weā€™re just finding out about it?!

58% of employees said working with one or multiple of these coworker types significantly affects their productivity. Even 44% of remote employees said they have one or multiple coworkers who are annoying over Slack and email.

The real problem comes with the discrepancies in how workers wish they would deal with these coworkers and how they actually do. When faced with annoying office behavior, the majority of people (32%) prefer to distance themselves from the culprit. 17% of people are brave enough to ask the person directly to stop, while another 17% ignore the issue completely. 12% report the behavior to HR, and 9% admit to getting passive-aggressive.

CULTURE

Netflix Will Fire You if You Fail This Test

Work culture is constantly evolving in the corporate world. Companies regularly roll out updates to bring out the best in their employees and ultimately make the most money.

But workplace culture is a top priority for job seekers assessing potential employers, so optics are important.

Netflix just made a major change to its workplace culture, and there have been mixed reactions to say the least. In a new memo to employees, Netflix claims that it views the company as a ā€œdream team,ā€ rather than a family.

Good. No more family talk about your coworkers!

ā€œWe model ourselves on being a professional sports team, not a family. A family is about unconditional love. A dream team is about pushing yourself to be the best possible teammate, caring intensely about your team, and knowing that you may not be on the team forever.ā€

-Netflix via the memo

Big Netflix W on that one. Pretty much everyone agrees that companies that call themselves a family are cringe. Major red flag for any job seeker.

Netflix just rolled out a ā€œkeeper testā€ for managers to determine whether or not to fire an employee.

According to the memo, managers will use the ā€œkeeper testā€ for all the employees they oversee.

The test basically asks: if a team member were leaving for a similar role at another company, would the manager fight to keep them?

The memo also says employees with a track record of success will be given leeway if their performance takes a dip, especially in a new role. The memo ends with ā€œWe donā€™t believe in long-term allegiance to a stagnant company, or to an only-adequately-performing employee.ā€

Netflix is following a growing workplace trend.

Waze Co-Founder Uri Levine recently revealed that he instructs managers to give new employees a 30-day test to determine their future at the company.

He said that if a new employee underperforms at the company during their first 30 days on the job, he encourages leaders to fire them.

Make those first 30 days count!
